actually, the marriage laws in Japan are SLIGHTLY more complex NOW than that. Japan raised the age for marriages due to their laws changing regarding voting age (18 which changed in 2015) then age of majority. the majority moving to 18 was passed and signed into law on June 13, 2018 but came into effect on April 1, 2022. since then BOTH sexes have to be 18 or have at least ONE guardian or parent sign the forms giving permission. as to the bare MINIMUM age permitted that argument has been ongoing in the Japanese Diet since the voting age change in 2015... so it is still up in the air. but most sources i've read INCLUDING the amendments taking in effect back in 2022 list ONE age 18 as the minimum for both sexes.

since this show came out in 2019... the age of majority and marriage law had been SIGNED but hadn't come into effect yet.

also, sexual consent is based on PREFECTURAL and LOCAL regulations in Japan, not national regulations. that one is another hot-button-topic in Japan. but normally Japan doesn't have 'age gap' laws where x age is not permitted to sex with y age and so forth. it is just a blanket... don't sex z age persons.

Ah yes Marriage laws. As far as I knew The marriage laws was that as long as there was consent from the parent's, and that at least one person was of the age of 16 you can register as married. Even with amendments. Especially in Japan where the government take the
declining birthrate as a serious matter., and marriage decline as a serious threat to the nation. age of consent was around 13, 16, and 18.
I:m thinking this was indue part to the declining birthrates in Japan. I agree age of consent if largely different in each prefecture. Some parts are crazy low. Like in some mountain village or places like that with very old traditions.

yep the amendments i mentioned due to the age for voting and then age of majority changes made ALL the old marriage laws as well as the loans and rental agreements and much more yadda yadda yadda laws obsolete. Japan even had to change the regulations for -their- PASSPORTS! :o

as to the minimum age for marriage, as i mentioned, it is set 'presently' at 18 without any consent required etc. no new 'news' i've dug up mentions the lowest of the low ages WITH consent... other than one CNN article (from one of their Japanese journalists)... from back in 2018 about the Diet discussions concerning a United Nations referendum (or something) encouraging all member countries to... i'll paraphrase... 'do SOMETHING about child marriages' end of paraphrase. as to Japan's official response to that UN thingie... i've NO clue! :D none at all. with this age of majority change, and how Japan arranged it to take effect after two years... i THINK they THOUGHT pretty damn hard about the 'whole package' and how it would affect their country and citizens.

Sounds like they did, but why change their whole laws now. even their passport laws. Their marriage laws were rather the same as the western marriage laws. Most Japanese citizens Already followed the whole marriage at 18 unless they have consent from both families, and including arranged marriages too. It's just an agreement that so, and so would marry so, and so at this time with consent from both families at so, and so time. No real change honestly. Also UN is just filled with garbage from countries that shouldn't even be there in the first place, and are so much worst. I would go so far as to say are evil due to human right violations. So The UN has zero rights to preach to any other about any thing.

So wait... Kana went to HS with his mom, and he was 7-10 yrs old when Kana originally met him as shown in the previous episode. Assuming that his mom and Kana aren't the same age, that would make his mom her Senpai in HS and probably a Senior, which is a 4 yr difference at max, so since they start high school between 13-14, and graduate around 18-19 yrs old, we can conclude that his mom was 18-19 and Kana was 13-14, so that means that for his mom to have had a 7-10 yr old son for Kana to meet while she was in Highschool, His mom would've had to give birth at the age of... GOD DAMNIT JAPAN!
